Dr Riccardo Scano
Consultant Anaesthetist & Intensive Care Specialist

Dr Scano is one of our highly experienced Consultant Anaesthetists and has been working alongside Mr Marciniak since 2018. In addition to his expertise in anaesthesia, he is also a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine, bringing a broad range of skills to patient care. As part of our dedicated cohort of anaesthetists, he will ensure that your anaesthesia is delivered to the highest standards of safety and comfort.

For major arthroplasty surgery (such as hip and knee replacement), the preferred approach is usually spinal anaesthesia, which is widely regarded as the gold standard for these procedures. It is often combined with conscious sedation to ensure patients remain relaxed and comfortable throughout. For other operations, such as knee arthroscopy or manipulation under anaesthesia, a general anaesthetic may be more suitable. In every case, Dr Scano carefully selects the safest and most appropriate technique in discussion with each patient, tailoring the anaesthetic plan to individual needs and preferences.

Along with our other consultant anaesthetists, Dr Scano also plays an important role in managing acute postoperative pain, carefully tailoring medication to support a smooth and comfortable recovery.

Outside of medicine, Dr Scano has a long-standing passion for surfing and is actively involved with Surfing Doctors, an international community of medical professionals who combine their expertise with a love for the ocean.
